27. (sc, dec, sc) x 6 (18)

28. (sc, dec) x 6 (12)

29. dec x 6 (6)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Don't close the magic ring yet - the tail will be used to shape the apple & it's easier to do the sewing first.

Attach a new piece of beige yarn to the second last front loop from round 21 & continue.

22. (Slst, hdc, hdc, slst, slst, chain 4, working down the chain: slst, sc, hdc, in the next front loop: slst) x 6 (36)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew to the body.

Using the pink/dark green tail, sew the top part between rounds 10&11 & the double crochets between rounds 11&12 using a straight stitch (going around the posts of the stitches).

Using the beige tail, sew the attached part down using a straight stitch. Skip sewing the slip stitches before&after the chains & sew directly into the first chain & hdc stitch on the other side of the chain (see picture).

Closing & shaping - weave the beige tail at the bottom of the applin through the front loops of the remaining stitches & pull to close the ring. Next, weave the tail up through the 'body' of the apple & through one of the spaces between the stitches in round one. Pull gently. Put the sewing needle in the next space (so the yarn tail wraps around one of the stitches) & pull it through the body & out of the bottom. Pull gently. Repeat this two more times until the apple is shaped.

In lime green - make two

1. magic ring 6 (6)

2. (sc, inc) x 3 (9)

3. (inc, 2 sc) x 3 (12)

4-6. sc around (12)

7. (2 sc, dec, 2 sc) x 2 (10)

8-9. sc around (10)

10. (3 sc, dec) x 2 (8)

11. sc around (8)

12. slst, sc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, sc, slst (8)

Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew to the head/body.

In green or dark green

1. magic ring 4 (4)

2. (sc, inc) x 2 (6)

3. (sc, inc) x 3 (9)

4. sc around (9)

5. sc around (9)

6. inc x 3, 6 sc (12)

7. sc around (12)

8. 6 hdc, 6 sc (12)

9. inc x 6, dec x 3 (15)

10. 12 sc, 3 hdc (15)

11. sc around (15)

12. dec, 9 sc, dec, dec, slst to first stitch (12)

Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew to the body.

Sew the tail to the back of the body. It should sit between two of the chain triangles/above one of the rows of beige half double crochets.

If needle felting: create two black ovals on the eyes & add a smaller yellow oval in each eye. Using lime green, add a patch to the tail. If using felt: cut two ovals out of black & two smaller ovals out of yellow. Glue the yellow oval to the black oval & glue/sew the black ovals to the eyes. Cut out a lime green circular shape for the tail & glue or sew it on. Sew the eyes to the top of the body. The double crochets should sit at the top of the magic ring. Cut a black pipe cleaner in half & weave it through a sewing needle. Bend the end a bit & push the needle through the tail. Bend each end of the pipe cleaner a bit (so the ends aren't wild/poking out) & trim the extra off.
